General Information

Turning Interest Into Action

The West Hempstead Community Scholarship Fund, we’re committed to investing our expertise and resources in order to further achieve our cause. Since 1969, we’ve been supporting our students of the West Hempstead School District by providing scholarship awards measuring our success not by monetary size, but by more qualitative measurements such as the scale and effectiveness of the efforts of donations from businesses, organizations, residents, school staff and participating member groups. Just imagine what we can achieve together!

About the Scholarship

The Scholarship

The Scholarship Fund will award three or more scholarships. The scholarships are based on an evaluation of character, potential, community service and financial need.

Documentation of financial need is required (submission of 1040 tax return with the application. A student may apply and be eligible for a scholarship without citing financial need, but the Fund will give primary consideration to the financial need applicant.

Applications are reviewed by the Selection Committee. After the Committee selects the recipients of each award, The Board and Trustees vote to approve each scholarship. The scholarships are awarded at the annual dinner held in May.

Applications

Applications are available in January at most high school Guidance Departments, the West Hempstead Public Library or by clicking the link below. Applications are due, postmarked no later than March 1, 2024.

Donations

The WHCSF fundraising and donations benefit students who attend West Hempstead Secondary School or live within the school district. With tuition costs steadily escalating, these students need our help more than ever. Your contribution will help our deserving students further their education.

The WHCSF is a non-profit organization, chartered by the state of New York, and administrated by a Board of Trustees, who are elected by participating members. We hope that you will support this community endeavor by sending your tax-deductible contribution to the WHCSF. These scholarship awards were made possible through the generosity of individual donations from businesses, organizations, residents, school staff, and participating member groups, including those establishing commemorative awards. All money donated to the fund go solely for scholarship awards to the students. All the services for the Fund are performed by volunteers and operating expenses are covered by proceeds from the annual scholarship awards dinner and raffle which will be held in the month of May.
